The production of enough resources can be a problem. They are needed to build and level up buildings in the city, do research in the academy, and recruit units in the barracks and in the harbor. The conventional way to get resources is from the timber camp, the quarry and the silver mine. That covers wood, stone and silver with a regular running income. Demanding or looting from farming villages is also a possibility, if there are villages on the island. And there might be the possibility to steal resources from other cities; these can be ghost cities or ones that were abandoned by their owner. But what would help is a real boost to all this, villages or no villages, ghosts or no ghosts.
Let's cover basics first. Every city has a timber camp, a quarry, and a silver mine to continually produce wood, stone, and silver. Every island has irregular production levels; one resource is average, one is higher and one lower than that. And there are two kinds of islands, the large ones with farming villages and the smaller rocky ones without.
If push comes to shove, there are possibilities to get things back on track for at least a few cities. This can be done without spending time on endless looting attacks or on milking the farming villages for all they are worth. There are heroes and spells that can be used to increase the production of resources in the city even while you are away in real life.
Following are the four heroes that boost resource production in a city. There is a place for each of them.
Andromeda
Bonus for the city:
Increases resource production by 16.5 % at level 1; gets a 1.5 % increase per additional level.
The starting heroine and a free gift from Grepolis. Ideal for building up any city in the beginning. Her importance drops significantly as the game progresses and you get more cities. Move from your first city to the next as soon as the first one is battle ready.
Use in:
Cities that need high resource production while still building up and filling out (the higher the level of your production buildings the more you get from Andromeda's % increase).
Cities that need to be built up quickly but rely on their own resources (meaning you can't or don't want to send resources there from other cities or they are on rocky islands with no farming villages).
Combine with:
Hera's Happiness spell.
Island quest spells for increased production of one or more resources.
Bonus quest spells for increased production of one or more resources. Bonus spells can come from the Daily Reward (smash the amphora) or from one of the games in the game. Not all bonus spells can be combined with quest spells; the game will tell if they clash.
Ylestres
Bonus for the city:Increases wood production in the timber camp by 44 % at level 1; gets a 4 % increase per additional level.
Cities that have low wood production.
Hera's Happiness spell.
