Ranking the Best Attacking Units for Effectiveness

This article gives an overview over all attacking units you can get in Grepolis. Some of them are so weak, you can't really call them attacking units. The lists below compare their attacking power according to their weapon of choice, blunt, sharp, or distance. Please not that this post includes the new units Satyr and Siren from Beta.

The attacking power is calculated per population (i.e. if a horseman uses 3 population, his attacking power has been divided by 3; 60 blunt divided by 3 population is 20). There are differences if you send attacks over land on an island, or if you need transport ships to get to another island. I have calculated the impact of the population used to recruit slow and fast transport ships as well.

If you know WHY you want to recruit attack units, this page should help you in making a decision as to WHICH units you should build.

All figures in the ranking lists are rounded and based on the gross figures shown in the Grepolis wiki.

There are a few things I want to point out. The lists compare the effectiveness of attacking units. They don't compare speed or cost. They also don't compare effectiveness in defense.

It is also safe to say that any unit with less than 10 points should be avoided when attacking. That rule doesn't apply to catapults, as you need them when bringing down a wall.

When attacking a city over sea, remember to send light ships or triremes with the transport ships. Transport ships have no defense value and can be sunk by a single bireme in the harbor you send them to. The one hydra, bireme or trireme and even a light ship in the harbor will sink all unaccompanied transport ships and all your troops on board before they reach the city wall.

I have marked the flying units that don't need transport ships to reach another island with an asterisk (*). They are units perfect for attacks, with the exception of the Pegasus which is a defensive unit. Mythicals that need transport and the floating ones are marked with a hash (#).
